Frequently asked questions

What is a Giving Day?

Giving Day is a 36-hour celebration and fundraising challenge for the whole King’s College community, including OAs, parents and friends throughout the world, inviting everyone to give what they can online through this dedicated platform.

For our inaugural Giving Day at the school, we're planning an array of fun activities to engage students, staff, and the community. Examples include staff and pupil challenges both at school and on external trips, themed King’s Loop races at the Prep School, and inter-house competitions.

With tens of thousands of pounds to unlock in matched and challenge funding, it’s a day like no other and your gift will go even further than usual. It will be a transformational day of giving and it’s all about what we can achieve together. The King’s College Giving Day will take place on 18-19 Jun 2024.

Why is a Giving Day different to any other day?

Gifts made during this period will go even further than usual. Thanks to very generous OAs and Parents, all donation and challenges up to £20,000 will be matched pound for pound.

What difference will my donation make?

You can choose for your gift to either help to change the life of a bright local child who deserves a chance to shine at Sixth Form at King’s College, or to help fund a Junior Social Space. If your choice is to support King's College Prep, then you will be helping to develop the performing arts provision at school to inspire our children and nurture a life-long appreciation for the arts and self-expression.

All gifts, of any size, collectively will make a real difference. With thousands to unlock in match and challenge funding, your gift will go even further. We would love as many members of the King’s community to participate in our Giving Day as possible, showing what an outstanding and supportive community we have.

Where will the funds go?

Every penny raised goes directly to support local children through means-tested bursaries; to develop outdoor pursuits at the Prep, or to bring our junior pupils together in one social space at the College. Your involvement means much more to us than the amount you donate.

How can I make my gift?

There are several ways to make your gift, whether you’d like to give on the day or before it:

  • Early donations online through our Giving Day platform from 18 May 2024.
  • During the Giving Day (18-19 June 2024)
    • Online: through our Giving Day platform
    • In person: Visit the Development Office to make a gift prior to the Giving Day or email oa@kings-taunton.co.uk to find out what opportunities are available to participate in person on the Giving Day.
    • By post: Cheques made out to King’s College Taunton and sent to Brenda Worth, King’s College, South Road, Taunton TA1 3LA.
  • Before the day: If you would like to make an early gift to our Giving Day, the best way to do this is through the ‘Give Early’ option on the platform.

If you cannot give online, you can still give early by post (see above). Please be sure to indicate that your gift should support our Giving Day and note which cause you would like to support, as well as which of the boarding houses you are supporting in their fundraising.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments through our Giving Day website will be securely processed by a secure, off-site payment processor called Stripe (www.stripe.com/gb/privacy).

All donations will receive an email receipt and will be recognised on the Giving Day Donor Wall.

Why is my payment not going through?

We’re sorry that you’re having difficulty making your gift. Common problems include: incorrect card details, or the postcode not matching the address linked to your card.

If you continue to have problems making your gift, please email us at  oa@kings-taunton.co.uk or call +44 (0)1823 328184

Is there a minimum donation?

The minimum online gift amount is £5.

Can you claim Gift Aid on my donation?

Yes! If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid as much Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax as the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year, King’s College Taunton can reclaim the basic tax rate (25%) on your gift, with no extra cost to you. So, for example, your donation of £100 will be worth £125 to us.

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can also benefit by obtaining relief for the donation on your tax return.

Can I include a gift in my Will to support King’s College?

Yes! You can support the College or the Prep by including a gift in your Will. Many alumni have already done this and the Director of Development can provide you will all of the information you need. Please contact Phillip Rothwell, Director of Development, on 07826 969012.
